The History of the HUB
St. George’s House Charity was established in 1973. Our working name is St. George’s HUB. We are a Registered Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee.
St. George’s HUB is a charity with more than 40 years experience of working with some of the most disadvantaged people in Wolverhampton. Historically our services were directed towards homeless or vulnerably housed people. Our role has evolved over the years and we now support any vulnerable, socially excluded or isolated adult. In this respect, we are unique in Wolverhampton in that we operate an open-door policy, never turning away anyone who comes to us for help.
We provide a holistic range of services and activities that are tailored to the particular needs of each client. For some, this may involve help with welfare benefit issues. For others, it may include getting them involved in activities such as our gardening club to improve their motivation, physical health and self-esteem.
Wolverhampton is changing, the 2011 census revealed a much more multi-cultural and cosmopolitan City. Since 2010, this has been reflected in our clients. As we are based in a highly diverse area, where community cohesion is vital, it is important that St. George’s HUB and the services we provide respond to changing circumstances. Our services have therefore evolved to meet the needs of an increasingly wide range of people from many different backgrounds.
From the 1st February 2017 services will be gender specific, working with vulnerable and excluded men.
