St.George’s has expanded its agricultural production with the building of further raised beds.

The efforts of the Service User’s were excellent and we have high hopes (if the rain stops for at least 24 hours) of a bountiful harvest.  Thanks to the team who assisted.

St.George’s will be closed on Bank Holiday 7th May 2012.  We will be open as usual on Tuesday the 9th May.

St.George’s has extended its highly successful I.T sessions to members of the local community to Monday afternoons. These sessions take place between 2 and 4 p.m and are particularly suitable for the more mature user. Our existing session’s are currently utilised by many of Wolverhampton’s diverse communities. are free and are a brilliant introduction to I.T and computers. St.George’s is at the heart of the local community and is delighted to encourage the sort of surfing that does not involve a Board!

Recording sessions began on the 7th April for St.George’s Service User’s Rob and Barry at a local studio in Wolverhampton who have emerged as a bright new talent  under the stewardship of our guitar toting volunteer, Nick.  Initial reports were very positive and we will report as updates emerge.  Music plays an intrinsic part of our meaningful activities and we have high hopes that there is much untapped talent waiting to be discovered.

The latest inductees to our innovative gym sessions took place this week. This is another opportunity for people to help themselves and improve their health.  These highly toned individuals will pump iron, walk on treadmills and work on their ab’s.  Our doors may have to be widened as a result.  Well done to all!

    The HUB gardening club is getting ready to spring into action again and planting started in earnest this week. After last years success we now have a new larger greenhouse ready to errect and the newly built raised bed is full of top soil and awaiting this years crop.

Pancake Day was celebrated in some style at St.George’s with an astonishing display of pancake tossing at the HUB.  Service User’s were dazzled at the speed, efficency and technique of the staff.  The atmosphere is never flat at the HUB.

St.George’s Hub has continued its fitness push by supporting swimming sessions for our service Users at the local swimming baths.  We continue to expand our selection of meaningful activities for disadvantaged people.  The sessions enable people suffering multiple disadvantages to spend their time constructively, keep fit and hopefully we will discover a few potential olympians.   Our aim is that these sessions will inspire service users to access community and leisure facilities and take on the baton themselves.

As part of our continuing relationship with Wolves in the Community, several of our service User’s attended a celebratory meal at the ‘Sir Jack’s’ Restaurant in  Molineux Stadium during December 2011.  The Head to Health scheme has played a significant part in improving the health, through sport, in Wolverhampton and we look forward in 2012 to offering more sporting activities to vulnerable people in the City.

Congratulations to all who participated in the HUB’s ‘talentfest’
that took place as part of our Christmas celebrations.  Contributions were from right across the musical
spectrum and hugely impressed the panel of judges. The audience were won over
by the sheer commitment and integrity of all that performed.  The event highlighted the creative
opportunities available at the HUB, there are a number of artistic activities
available to our Service User’s and we encourage all to find a ‘voice’ .
